In an update from our blog ‘Avoid The Funeral Vultures This Winter’ [8 May 2019], it has been reported that:
‘InvoCare is starting to lift its market share again. InvoCare chief executive Martin Earp was quoted as saying ‘the number of deaths had begun to return to long-term averages ahead of any impact from the flu. Profits were up 9 per cent for the March quarter, compared with the same time a year ago.’ [Financial Review, 14 May 2019].
eziFunerals Comment: Although, InvoCare has said it was too early to accurately forecast the influence of the flu season on winter trading, it will be interesting to see InvoCare’s actual funeral volumes when the ABS releases its next death rates report in 2019. We believe that the marketplace is changing, which is impacting on InvoCare’s funeral volumes, rather than it’s ‘Protect and Grow’ strategy and more deaths from a bad flu season.
